Nillkin CamShield Pro for OnePlus 13 at Rs 1,399 — The Case That Solved My Biggest Camera Anxiety
Let me tell you about the moment that made me buy this case. I was sitting at a Starbucks in Connaught Place, Delhi, last month. Put my OnePlus 13 face up on the table. Took a sip of coffee. Then noticed my friend's kid reaching across the table and dragging my phone towards himself. Across the rough wooden table surface. Camera side down. I could hear the scraping sound before I could react. Picked up the phone, checked the Hasselblad camera module, and there it was — a faint but clearly visible scratch right across the main lens cover glass.
Now let me be clear, this scratch didn't affect photo quality. At all. Phone camera lens covers are made of sapphire crystal or hardened glass and surface scratches rarely impact the actual images because the lens focuses past them. But knowing it was there? That bothered me. A lot. I'd just spent Rs 59,999 on this phone and within three weeks there was a scratch on the camera. That evening I went on Flipkart and ordered the Nillkin CamShield Pro case. Rs 1,399, down 30% from Rs 1,999. Should have bought it on day one.
Why Camera Protection Matters More Than You Think
Here's something I've noticed over the years. We obsess over screen protectors. Literally everybody in India puts a screen protector on their phone. The first thing most people do after buying a new phone — even before transferring data or setting up their Google account — is go to the local mobile accessories shop and get a tempered glass installed. In places like Gaffar Market in Delhi or Lamington Road in Mumbai, you can see people walking out of phone stores and straight into the accessories guy next door. Screen protection is just default behaviour at this point.
But camera protection? Nobody thinks about it. The camera bump on modern phones like the OnePlus 13 sticks out by 3-4 millimetres from the back surface. Every time you put your phone down on a table, a desk, a kitchen counter — the camera module is the first thing that touches the surface. Every single time. And unlike the screen which faces up most of the time, the camera lenses face outward and are constantly exposed to pockets full of keys, coins, sand particles, and whatever else lives in there.
I was talking to a guy at a Croma store in Bangalore about this and he told me they get at least 5-6 customers every week complaining about scratched camera lenses. Five to six. Per week. At a single store. Some of them come in thinking the scratch is causing their photos to look bad — it usually isn't — but the point is that camera lens scratches are incredibly common and almost nobody takes preventive steps.
This is exactly the problem the Nillkin CamShield Pro solves. And it solves it in the most satisfying way possible.
The Sliding Camera Cover — How It Works
The defining feature of this case is a physical sliding cover that sits over the camera module. When you're not taking photos, the cover is closed. Its camera lenses are completely hidden behind a smooth, flat panel. Nothing can touch them. Not keys, not table surfaces, not your friend's kid dragging the phone across a wooden table. Nothing.
When you want to take a photo, you slide the cover open with your thumb. It moves smoothly on a spring-loaded rail mechanism. There's a satisfying little resistance to the movement — it isn't so loose that it slides open in your pocket, and not so tight that you need to fumble with it when you want a quick photo. The action takes about half a second. You take your photo, you slide it back closed. Done.
I know what you're thinking. "Does the slider mechanism get in the way? Is it annoying to open every time I want to take a photo?" I thought the same thing before buying. After using it for about three weeks now, I can tell you — it becomes muscle memory within a day. You open the camera app with one hand, slide the cover with the other, and you're shooting. It's actually faster than you would imagine because you don't need to look at the slider. Your thumb just finds it and pushes it open. By day three I wasn't even thinking about it.
The slider covers the entire camera module including the LED flash. When closed, the back of the phone looks clean and almost flat. One camera bump is still there because you can't physics your way out of that but the exposed glass lenses are hidden. It gives the phone a very sleek, industrial look that I actually prefer to the bare phone appearance.
Build Quality of the Slider Mechanism
The rail on which the slider moves is metal, not plastic. This is important because a plastic rail would wear out within a few months of daily sliding. The metal rail ensures smooth, consistent movement even after hundreds of open-close cycles. Nillkin claims the mechanism is tested for over 50,000 slides. I'm probably at a few thousand already — I slide it open and closed absentmindedly while sitting in meetings sometimes, like a fidget toy — and there's zero change in the feel.
The slider panel itself is made of hardened polycarbonate. It's smooth to the touch and doesn't scratch easily. Even if the slider panel itself gets scratched over time, that is fine. You can see the lens through the slider only when it's open, and any scratches on the closed panel don't affect photography. It is a sacrificial protection layer, which is exactly the point.
The Case Body — Not Just About the Camera
While the camera slider is the star of the show, the rest of the case isn't just filler. A CamShield Pro uses a dual-layer construction — a hard polycarbonate outer shell with a flexible TPU inner frame. This combination gives you two things that single-material cases can't: the rigidity and scratch resistance of polycarbonate plus the shock absorption and flexible grip of TPU.
When you hold the phone with this case on, the first thing you notice is the texture. The back has a fine matte finish that feels slightly rough under your fingertips. Not sandpaper rough — more like the texture of a soft-touch laptop lid. It's a massive improvement over the bare glass back of the OnePlus 13 which is so slippery that I really feared for the phone's life every time I placed it on a slightly inclined surface. With the Nillkin case, the phone stays where you put it. On a table, on a stack of books, on the arm of a sofa. It doesn't slide anymore.
The matte texture also means no fingerprints. That OnePlus 13 in the Midnight Ocean colourway is a fingerprint magnet without a case. Within an hour of use the back looks like you have been handling it with oily hands. Each Nillkin case eliminates this problem entirely. Clean, matte, no smudges. This alone is worth it for people who are particular about their phone looking clean.
Drop Protection
The case isn't marketed as a heavy-duty rugged case, and it's not. You aren't going to get the 11-foot drop certification that something like a RhinoShield or OtterBox offers. But for everyday drops — phone sliding off a coffee table, falling out of your jacket pocket, slipping from your hand while walking — the dual-layer construction handles it fine. The TPU inner frame absorbs impact and the raised bezels around the screen and camera prevent direct contact with the ground on flat drops.
I'd one drop so far. Phone slipped from my hand while I was getting out of an auto in Koramangala. It fell about three feet onto concrete pavement. The case took the impact on one of the corners and there is a tiny mark there now. Every phone inside? Perfectly fine. No damage, no loosening of the case fit, the slider still works perfectly. For a Rs 1,399 case I'm more than satisfied with that level of protection.
Fit, Cutouts, and Button Covers
The cutouts on this case are precise. And I do not use that word casually — I've used cases where the speaker cutout was slightly off-centre, or the USB-C port opening was too small and I'd to angle the cable to get it in. The Nillkin CamShield Pro has none of those issues. Our USB-C cutout is wide enough for thick cable connectors. My speaker grilles align perfectly. Your alert slider cutout — which is a big deal for OnePlus users — is properly sized and positioned so you can flick the slider without catching on the case edge.
The button covers for power and volume are my favourite part of the non-slider design. They're thin enough that the buttons feel natural under your thumb but responsive enough that you get a clear tactile click. Some cases make the buttons feel mushy, like pressing a button through a mattress. This one retains probably 90% of the bare button feel. I have used cases from Spigen, Urban Armor Gear, and Ringke and the Nillkin button covers are at least as good as any of those.
The case adds about 1.5mm of thickness overall. You can notice it if you directly compare with the bare phone but in daily use it isn't something you think about. Its added grip from the textured back actually makes the phone feel better in hand despite being slightly thicker. One OnePlus 13 is a big phone and without a case it can feel a bit precarious in one-handed use. A case helps with that.
Wireless Charging Compatibility
This was a concern for me before buying because I use wireless charging at night. Some cases — especially thicker ones or those with metal elements — interfere with Qi charging. The Nillkin CamShield Pro works perfectly fine with wireless charging. I tested it with my Samsung wireless charger and a generic Qi pad from Amazon, and both charged the OnePlus 13 at normal speeds with the case on. No extra heat, no positioning issues, no problems at all.
The slider panel when closed does sit over the camera area which is in the upper portion of the phone back, away from the wireless charging coil. So there's no interference from the metal slider rail. Smart design choice by Nillkin — they clearly thought about this during the engineering process.
Colour Options and Aesthetic
The case comes in two colours on Flipkart India — Black and Dark Green. I went with Black because I've the Midnight Ocean OnePlus 13 and the all-dark look appeals to me. But I saw a friend's Dark Green version on the Arctic Dawn (white) OnePlus 13 and I've to say that combination looks really, really good. The dark green has a slight olive undertone that gives it a sophisticated military-ish vibe without being over the top.
Two colour options is a bit limited compared to brands like Spigen or RhinoShield that offer five or six options. But honestly? Black goes with everything, and the Dark Green is different enough from the standard black cases that it gives you a choice without being overwhelming. I'd love to see Nillkin add a Navy Blue or a matte grey option in the future but for now Black and Dark Green cover most preferences.
Flipkart Pricing and Bank Offers
The MRP is Rs 1,999 and the current Flipkart price is Rs 1,399. That's a clean 30% off and I think it's fair for what you get. Camera slider cases from brands like Spigen typically cost Rs 1,299-1,699 for comparable models. The generic ones from unknown brands cost Rs 500-700 but the slider mechanisms on those are terrible — wobbly, loose, and prone to breaking within weeks.
HDFC Bank card users can get additional instant discounts on Flipkart — the offer varies but it's usually Rs 50-100 off on orders above Rs 1,000. ICICI Bank credit card holders sometimes get 10% instant discount coupons during Flipkart sale events. If you have Flipkart Axis Bank credit card, you get 5% unlimited cashback which brings this case down to about Rs 1,330.
Flipkart Pay Later users can also split this into no-cost EMI — though paying Rs 1,399 in three monthly installments of Rs 466 feels a bit unnecessary unless you're bundling it with other purchases. During major sales like the Big Billion Days or the Big Shopping Days event, I've seen Nillkin cases go as low as Rs 1,099 but there is no guarantee of that. At Rs 1,399 right now, you're getting good value without waiting for a sale that may or may not bring a better price.
One more thing — check for Flipkart SuperCoins redemption on the product page. You can sometimes use SuperCoins for an additional Rs 50-100 off. If you're a Flipkart Plus member, the coins accumulate from your regular purchases and this is a good way to use them.
Compared to Other OnePlus 13 Cases
The official OnePlus Sandstone case costs about Rs 1,499-1,799 and has that iconic textured back but no camera protection at all. The Spigen Tough Armor for OnePlus 13 costs about Rs 1,299 and gives you excellent drop protection but again, the camera is covered by a thin TPU layer that doesn't prevent scratches the way a physical slider does. Urban Armor Gear cases offer military-grade drop protection at Rs 2,000+ but are bulky and overkill for most people.
None of the major competitors at this price point offer a physical camera cover. That is the Nillkin CamShield Pro's biggest differentiator. If camera protection is your priority — and after my Starbucks incident I'm firmly in the camp that it should be — this is pretty much your only option at this quality level for the OnePlus 13 in India.
There are generic camera slider cases available on Amazon and Flipkart for Rs 300-500. I bought one of those before the Nillkin and returned it within a day. The slider was wobbly from the start, the case fit was loose, and the material felt like it would crack if I sneezed on it. Sometimes you get what you pay for and in this case, the extra Rs 1,000 for the Nillkin is absolutely worth it.
Three Weeks In — Random Notes
The case doesn't interfere with the in-display fingerprint sensor. Some thicker cases can cause issues with under-display fingerprint readers but the Nillkin doesn't go anywhere near that area. Fingerprint unlock works exactly the same as without the case.
The bottom of the case has a small lip that runs across the chin of the phone. This means when you place the phone screen-down on a flat surface, the screen doesn't touch the surface. Good for those of us who are paranoid about micro-scratches on screen protectors.
I've noticed that the slider makes a very faint clicking sound when it reaches the fully open or fully closed position. It isn't loud enough to be noticed in any normal environment but in a dead-silent room you can hear it. I actually like the tactile feedback of it — tells you the slider is fully locked in position. But if you are someone who fidgets with the slider during meetings like I do, the person next to you might notice the repeated clicking sound if the room is quiet enough.
The case is easy to clean. A damp cloth wipes away any dust or grime. That matte texture doesn't hold onto dirt the way glossy cases do. Once a week I remove the case, wipe the inner surface, clean the phone back, and put it back on. Takes two minutes and the case looks new every time.
My Take After Three Weeks
I wish I'd bought this case the same day I bought my OnePlus 13. That scratch on my camera lens cover glass — the one from the Starbucks incident — still bothers me every time I see it, even though it doesn't affect photos. The Nillkin CamShield Pro would have prevented it entirely. At Rs 1,399 on Flipkart, it's honestly not even a debate. You get a well-built case with proper drop protection, a matte finish that looks and feels premium, and most importantly, a physical camera slider that keeps your Hasselblad lenses safe from the daily abuse that we all put our phones through. Stack an HDFC or ICICI bank card discount on top and it gets even better. If you own a OnePlus 13 and don't have a case yet, this is the one I'd pick without a second thought.
